Your first few cars
For someone running a handful of cars from a notebook, a spreadsheet and a group chat.
What goes wrong
At three cars nothing is broken yet, which is exactly why it is easy to leave alone. The spreadsheet works until the month you cannot remember who paid what, or the week a road tax lapses on a car nobody was watching.
What DriveFlow does about it
- Two things per car
- Pick the make and model from a list, then type a plate and a daily rate. Half-day, weekly and monthly rates and a deposit are optional.
- Papers that remind you
- Add a car’s insurance, road tax, permit or inspection with its expiry date. Your phone reminds you a week before it runs out, and the Today screen lists anything expiring in the next 30 days.
- A late car does not stay quiet
- An hour after a return time passes, your phone tells you which car has not come back and who has it.
- Room to grow
- Starter covers 10 cars and 3 staff seats. Growth covers 25 cars and 5 seats.
Where this is common
- Kuala Lumpur: Starting with three or four cars and a notebook.
- Penang: A few cars and a seasonal business is a good place to start keeping records.
- Kota Kinabalu: A small fleet of pickups and SUVs, still run from a notebook.
- Bali: A handful of cars, booked through WhatsApp and a notebook.
If this is close, also read
- Airport and hotel pickups: When bookings start arriving as messages and you deliver the car.
- Renting to ride-hailing drivers: When you start renting by the week to drivers.
